Verifying that your code signing certificate is properly installed in your browser is an important step to ensure that your digital signatures are recognized and trusted by other users

Here we will discuss how to verify code signing installation in three different browsers- Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox. 

Let’s get started. 

How to Verify Code Signing is Installed Properly or Not Internet Explorer?

To verify that your cheap code signing certificate has been properly installed in Internet Explorer, follow these steps:

  • Open Internet Options by clicking the gear icon in the top right corner of the browser and selecting Internet Options.
  • In the Internet Options window, navigate to the Content tab and click on the Certificates button.
  • In the Certificates window, go to the Personal tab and double-click on the code signing certificate that you just installed.
  • If you have multiple code-signing certificates, use the expiration date to determine which one is correct.
  • Check the’ General‘ tab in the Code Signing Certificate window to ensure it states, ‘You have a private key corresponding to this certificate.’ This confirms that the certificate has been properly installed and has a corresponding private key.
  • Suppose the certificate does not state that a private key corresponds to the certificate. In that case, you must re-key your certificate inside your account and go through the installation process again.

Once you have confirmed that your code signing certificate is installed and has a corresponding private key, you can start using it to sign code.

How to Verify Code Signing is Installed Properly or Not in Google Chrome?

To verify that your code signing certificate has been properly installed in Google Chrome, follow these steps

  • Open the Chrome browser and go to Settings.
  • On the Settings page, scroll to the bottom and click Show advanced settings.
  • Under the HTTPS/SSL section, click Manage certificates.
  • In the Certificates window, go to the Personal tab and double-click on the code signing certificate you installed.
  • If you have multiple code signing certificates, use the expiration date to determine the correct one.
  • In the Code Signing Certificate window, go to the General tab and look for the following text under Valid from: ‘You have a private key that corresponds to this certificate.

If the certificate does not mention a private key corresponding to the certificate, you will need to re-key the certificate and repeat the installation process.

Once you have verified that the certificate is installed and has a corresponding private key, you can use it to start signing your code.

How to Verify Code Signing is Installed Properly or Not in Firefox?

  • In Firefox, navigate to the Options menu and click on Advanced. From there, select the Certificates tab and click on View Certificates.
  • In the Certificate Manager window, you will find your code signing certificate under the ‘Your Certificates‘ tab. If you have multiple code signing certificates, use the expiration date to identify the correct one. To view the details of the certificate, select it and click on View.

Having confirmed that your standard code signing certificate is installed, you can now proceed to start using it for signing code.
