A BIMI record is added to your sending domain\u2019s DNS, directing the receiving mail server to the correct logo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Steps to Implement BIMI and Display a Verified Logo in Your Emails<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are the steps to set up the BIMI logo for your Business and organisation, after following this steps BIMI will be implemented for your organisation and the logo will display in the client inbox and if you use VMC, then a blue checkmark will also show in the client email inbox next to your brand email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-setup-email-authentication-standards\">1. Setup Email Authentication Standards<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before you can implement BIMI, you have to set up several email authentication standards. This is a prerequisite step you have to fulfil before applying for BIMI.<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The three email security protocols you have to add are as follows:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1.1 Sender Policy Framework (SPF)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sender Policy Framework (SPF) is an email authentication method that helps prevent spoofing. It specifies which mail servers are allowed to send emails on behalf of your domain. It works by adding an SPF record to your domain\u2019s DNS TXT record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It ensures only authorized servers, which are added to the DNS TXT record, can send email using your domain name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Method to Setting Up SPF:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To set up SPF record for your domain, follow the below steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Identify all the Email Providers<\/strong>: List out all the servers and the third-party services which you want to allow to send email for your domain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Add DNS TXT Record:<\/strong>\u00a0Create a SPF record and add it to your DNS TXT. Just like the example below:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>v=spf1 include:_spf.exampleprovider1.com include:_spf.exampleprovider2.com -all<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Let\u2019s understand each parameter:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>v=spf1<\/strong>\u00a0\u2192 Indicates that this is an SPF record.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>include:_spf.exampleprovider1.com\u00a0<\/strong>\u2192 Allows exampleprovider1 to send emails on\u00a0your behalf.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>include:_spf.exampleprovider2.com<\/strong>\u00a0\u2192 Allows exampleprovider2 to send emails on your behalf.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>-all <\/strong>\u2192 Excludes all others, Blocks any unauthorized servers from sending emails using your domain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Record Validation<\/strong> \u2192 Use this\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mxtoolbox.com\/spf.aspx\">tool<\/a>\u00a0to check and validate your SPF records. If it is not set correctly, legitimate emails get blocked or go to spam.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1.2 DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DKIM<\/strong>&nbsp;provides an additional layer of email security. Here a digital signature is attached to each email, this signature is verified by the receiving mail servers using a public key published in your DNS. It ensures the email is not tempered in between.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Method to Setting up DKIM:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To set up DKIM record for your domain, follow the below steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. Generate a Key Pair:<\/strong>&nbsp;Generate public and private key pair for your DKIM. Use your email provider or a dedicated tool for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2. Publish the Public Key<\/strong>: Create DKIM record and publish it to DNS TXT record. <strong>An example looks like this:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>default._domainkey.example.com TXT \u201cv=DKIM1; k=rsa; p=YOUR_PUBLIC_KEY\u201d<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>default._domainkey.example.com<\/strong>\u00a0\u2192 The DKIM selector for your domain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>v=DKIM1<\/strong>\u00a0\u2192 Tells the DKIM version.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>k=rsa<\/strong>\u00a0\u2192 Defines the encryption method.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>p=YOUR_PUBLIC_KEY<\/strong>\u00a0\u2192 This is your public key used for verification.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3. DKIM Signing:<\/strong>&nbsp;Configure your email server to attach the DKIM signature using the private key.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4. Verify DKIM Configuration:<\/strong>&nbsp;Use online DKIM checkers to verify the signature is valid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1.3 Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting &amp; Conformance (DMARC)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DMARC builds on SPF and DKIM. It provides instructions on how to handle emails that fail authentication. A DMARC record tells receiving servers whether to quarantine or reject emails that do not pass SPF or DKIM checks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It also reports you about the potential abuse of your domain, Regularly check your DMARC reports to detect misuse of your domain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Method to Setting up DMARC:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To set up DKIM record for your domain, follow the below steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1. <strong>Set Up the DMARC TXT Record:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Create a DMARC record policy, based on the security that is best for your organization, and put it in the DNS TXT record. <strong>An example looks like this:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code><em>_dmarc.example.com TXT \u201cv=DMARC1; p=quarantine; rua=mailto:dmarc-reports@example.com<\/em>\"<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>_<strong>dmarc.example.com<\/strong>\u00a0\u2192 The location of the DMARC record.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>v=DMARC1<\/strong>\u00a0\u2192 Defines the DMARC version, here it\u2019s version one.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>p=quarantine<\/strong>\u00a0\u2192 Suspicious emails are sent to spam.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>rua=mailto:dmarc-reports@example.com<\/strong>\u00a0\u2192 Receives reports about misuse of your domain email to the \u201creport@example.com\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Choose a Policy:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>none:<\/strong>\u00a0\u2192 Monitoring Only<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>quarantine:<\/strong>\u00a0\u2192 Send Suspicious Emails to Spam<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>reject:<\/strong>\u00a0\u2192 Block Emails that fail Authentication<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-verify-your-logo-is-eligible-for-a-vmc-or-cmc-\">2. Verify your Logo is eligible for a VMC or CMC<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To display your logo using BIMI, you need a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) or a Certification Mark Certificate (CMC) issued by a Certificate Authority (CA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To qualify for a VMC, your logo must be\u00a0<strong>registered as a trademark<\/strong>\u00a0with an intellectual property office recognised by VMC issuers. It is advisable to consult with your legal team or a lawyer to complete the trademark registration, which may take between 6 to 12 months. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>For the most secure BIMI implementation<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/cheapsslweb.com\/mark-certificates\/digicert-verified-mark-certificate\">obtaining a VMC<\/a> is highly recommended whenever possible. It gives a blue check near to your email which CMC doesn\u2019t offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your logo is not trademarked, you can implement BIMI using a logo with a Common Mark Certificate (CMC). The requirements for <a href=\"https:\/\/cheapsslweb.com\/mark-certificates\/digicert-common-mark-certificate\">obtaining a CMC<\/a> are that your logo has been used by you at least the\u00a0<strong>past 12 months<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Based on the case which fits best for you, <a href=\"https:\/\/cheapsslweb.com\/blog\/verified-mark-certificate-vmc-vs-common-mark-certificate-cmc-key-differences\/\">choose CMC or VMC<\/a> for your organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"3-check-your-public-web-server-supports-bimi\">3. Check your Public Web Server supports BIMI<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The web server hosting your BIMI files must support HTTPS. For best security, recommend using <a href=\"https:\/\/cheapsslweb.com\/blog\/tls-versions-explained-difference-between-tls-1-2-and-1-3\/\">TLS version 1.2 or later<\/a>, ensuring compatibility with servers running older TLS versions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Secure TLS connections should follow the protocol defined in your TLS certificate, which must also reference a trusted root Certificate Authority (CA) certificate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4-format-your-logo-into-p-svg-file\">4. Format Your Logo into P\/SVG file<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To get the BIMI logo, your logo must be BIMI compliant. Your BIMI logo should have a solid background, be perfectly centered within a square, remain clearly visible when cropped into a circle, and have a small file size, typically under 32KB. Additionally, it cannot be animated or interactive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BIMI logos must be in Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) format, an open-standard image type that ensures clear display at various resolutions. You can create your SVG logo using any compatible application, provided it meets the specified requirements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>To create an SVG file with Adobe Illustrator and a text editor, follow the below steps:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Open your vector image in Illustrator<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure the image does not contain bitmaps, linked files, text, or grouped objects. <strong>If the file includes text, convert it to an object using Illustrator\u2019s Create Outlines feature<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>File > Save As<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter a filename using only lowercase letters and dashes (e.g., mybrand-bimi.svg), avoiding special characters. <strong>Select SVG (svg) as the format<\/strong>, not SVG Compressed (svgz).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Set SVG Profiles to <strong>SVG Tiny 1.2<\/strong>. Choose Preserve for Image Location.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong> to complete the saving process.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Open the file<\/strong> in your favorite text editor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Change <strong>lines 3 and 4<\/strong> of the text file.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure the <strong>svg version value is 1.2<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Change the base Profile value to\u00a0<strong>tiny-ps<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove the x and y attributes and values.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add a <strong>&lt;title> tag and value as shown<\/strong>. The title must come after &lt;svg and before &lt;g><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">14. <strong>Save the modified file<\/strong>, ensuring it remains in .svg format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"5-contact-certificate-authority-ca-for-bimi-certificate\">5. Contact Certificate Authority (CA) for BIMI certificate<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The BIMI required a digital certificate, which is assigned by the trusted Certificate authority (CA) such as DigiCert. DigiCert offers <a href=\"https:\/\/cheapsslweb.com\/mark-certificates\">Mark Certificates<\/a> based on your organization\u2019s requirements, choose the best fit for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Submit your logo in SVG format and request a VMC or CMC, to the Certificate authority (CA) and apply for the certificate. They did verification from their end, they checked you are fulfilling all the requirements for the certificate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the verification process, you\u2019ll receive a certificate PEM\u00a0file. Your SVG file (logo) and VMC\/CMC are embedded in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cheapsslweb.com\/resources\/what-is-a-pem-file-how-to-create-it\"><strong>PEM<\/strong>\u00a0file<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Get the intermediate and root CA certificates from the certificate authority (CA) and append them to the PEM file in the order they were issued. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The usual sequence is: entity certificate, followed by any intermediate CA certificates, and then the root CA certificate. This file will be added to your public web server in the next step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now upload the PEM file (including all appended files) to your domain\u2019s public web server. Copy the PEM file URL which will be used in uploading in the BIMI TXT record in the DNS server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The URL looks something like that,&nbsp;<strong>\u201chttps:\/\/example.com\/brand\/certificate.pem\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"6-add-a-bimi-txt-record-in-dns\">6. Add a BIMI TXT Record in DNS<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To use on BIMI for your domain, you need to add the BIMI TXT record at your DNS server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Follow the below steps to do this:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Create a DNS TXT<\/strong> record for BIMI.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add TXT record that will look similar to this example:\u00a0<strong><em>\u201cv=BIMI1;l=;a=<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>https:\/\/example.com\/brand\/certificate.pem<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After you add the BIMI record, it can take up to\u00a0<strong>48 hours<\/strong>\u00a0for your logo to show in recipients\u2019 email inbox.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In today\u2019s digital world, email communication is the key to business growth.
